Sora:
At age 14 the chosen Keyblade Master, Sora, continues his heroic tale. His last adventure was filled with many tough battles and dangerous villains. After Sora was separated from his friends and his home, he found himself in a strange new world with even stranger creatures. But with the help of some comical friends who were looking for their king and a legendary blade, Sora vanquished all who stood in his path to be reunited with his friends. With some surprising turn of events, Sora was reunited with his long lost friends only to lose them once again.

Sora’s next adventure picks up immediately after his last. In this new journey Sora, along with Donald and Goofy, hope to once again find his friend and return home. Unfortunately, there are a few mysterious figures who have other plans for the boy. Even going so far as to luring him into a mysterious castle where ‘something Sora needs is at, but to claim it he must lose something dear’. Sora is a kind hearted boy, that can be a little naïve times and that tends to lead him into situations over his head. He is a loyal friend, and would do anything to help his out. And Sora knows that even in the deepest darkness, light can be found.

Riku:
Riku’s home world is Destiny Islands, where he used to play around with his best friends Sora and Kairi. Ever since Kairi arrived on the islands long ago, all he thought about was if other worlds existed besides the one he lives on. So he, Sora and Kairi started making a raft in hopes to sail to a new world, all the while still playing around their favorite hangout. Things went from bad to worse when heartless attacked Destiny Islands the night before they sailed, and Riku was completely separated from his friends. Maleficient took Riku under her wing when he turned up at Hollow Bastion, and leaded him down the road of darkness.

Believing Sora had simply replaced him and Kairi he had no problem doing the unthinkable and going against his former friend. Even when he lost his body and mind to the darkness, Sora never gave up on him and helped him get himself together. As an act of redemption, he helped Sora and Mickey close Kingdom Hearts, even at the cost of him not being able to return home. Now his and Mickey’s whereabouts are unknown, and Sora decided not to go back home so he can find him. Even though Riku is only 15 he acts quite mature for his age, except for his competitions with childhood rival Sora. And now that he is lost in darkness, he is willing to do anything to get back the life he threw away and cast away the darkness forever.

Kairi:
Kairi is a 14 year-old girl who lives on Destiny Islands with Sora and Riku. She is a timid girl who is contempt with the life she has. But she doesn’t mind going out to travel the worlds with her close friends. Since she suddenly arrived at the Mayor’s house when the gang was young, Riku has always wondered where Kairi is from. Unfortunately Kairi couldn’t remember where she came from, which sparked Riku’s plan to get away from Destiny Islands. When the islands were ultimately destroyed, Kairi seemed to vanish. Sora and Riku traveled other worlds to find where she was. When Riku did find her, she had already lost her heart.

Riku searched for a way to restore her heart with the help of Maleficient, but he was only a pawn by Ansem. Ansem took control of Riku’s body and told Sora that Kairi was just one of seven princesses of heart. Sora willingly sacrificed his heart to destroy the key blade that was holding Kairi’s, but Kairi managed to help him come back into the light. She remained with Leon in Traverse Town so that Sora could take care of Ansem. When Ansem was defeated, Kairi returned home without Sora and Riku. She now spends a relatively safe life on Destiny Islands, patiently waiting for her friends to return.

Donald Duck:
Donald is a court magician who protects Disney Castle and its inhabitants. Once the King left to find the reason for the stars going out, he instructed him and Goofy to find Leon and learn about the ‘key’. They didn’t find Leon, but found his accomplish, Aerith, in Traverse Town. They learned about the key, but needed to find it, or rather they needed to find Sora. They eventually bumped into him when they were literally thrown into a battle with a gigantic heartless. After some introductions, they took off in their Gummi Ship to find Sora’s friends and the King.

Often bumping heads with Sora, he proved to be a loyal friend when he choose to disobey the King’s orders of following the key and staying with Sora. When they finally found King Mickey, Donald followed his wishes and closed Kingdom Hearts so it can be sealed off. He is still following Sora with Goofy, even into Castle Oblivion where their next journey awaits. Donald is talkative, moody, and a bit short-tempered.

Goofy:
Goofy is Captain of the royal knights who helps protect Disney Castle and the people within it. When King Mickey journeyed out for answers about the stars going out, he left with Donald to find the ‘key’ as instructed. They began to find answers about the ‘key’ when they arrived in Traverse Town and meet Aerith. Once finding out about the key blade they bumped into Sora, it’s chosen wielder. After Goofy and Donald cheered Sora up, they traveled throughout different worlds to find answers.

After Riku took Sora’s key blade, he and Donald reluctantly followed him to obey the King’s previous orders. But Sora’s and Goofy’s friendship soon lead him back to Sora, which helped Sora get back the blade. After finally finding King Mickey at Kingdom Hearts, he helped seal the door so Sora and the King could seal it. He still journeys with Sora and Donald, even into the deep depths of a mysterious castle called Castle Oblivion. Despite his position, Goofy dislikes weapons. This is most likely because he is extremely kind-hearted.

King Mickey:
Mickey Mouse, the ruler of Disney Castle. Though rarely seen in the first game, Goofy, Donald and all of the Disney Castle inhabitants show great respect and faith in him. He left before Sora’s island was destroyed to find the reason why the stars would go out one by one. His exact whereabouts are unknown for most of Sora’s journey, but he showed up just in time at Kingdom Hearts to help Sora. Together they both sealed the door with their key blades.

Not only did Mickey manage to help Sora out, but his lost friend Riku as well. When Riku was lost in the realm of darkness, he managed to give him some words of encouragement. When Sora locked Kingdom Hearts, Mickey lost touch with Riku shortly after. Mickey is a kind king, who is willing to help out anyone in need.

Namine:
Namine is an enigma to Sora. She resides in Castle Oblivion with The Organization members that led Sora and the others there in the first place. She seems to spend most of her time drawing pictures, and seems quite lonely. She may or may not be working with the cloaked members, but she seems to be constantly depressed. For some reason as Sora progresses through the castle, he regains memories of her on Destiny Islands. Whether or not his memories are true, Sora has yet to discover.

Riku Replica:
A replica of Riku that was created by Vexen that has control over dark powers. He retains all of Riku’s old memories and has feelings and opinions of his own (when not influenced by Vexen). He has no idea that he isn’t the real Riku. His role in Oblivion seems to be merely playing a game of cat and mouse with Sora. He seems to entirely replace Kairi with Namine and constantly tells Sora that he will be the one to save her. Of course, Sora takes up this challenge to find out what happened with his friend.

Ansem:
A man with the title of Pursuer of Darkness. Ansem was told to be a wise man with quite a bit of knowledge about the heartless and the key blade. He has written several reports depicting his findings that everyone seems to want their hands on. Little was Sora aware of, but Ansem was the one who was using Malificient as a pawn for his own plans. Riku was even a victim of Ansem’s doings, losing his body to him.

Sora eventually took Ansem down and Riku was able to get his body back. Riku now is fearful of the darkness because he knows that there will always be a part of Ansem within him. Ansem is a cruel being, who isn’t above sacrificing others to get what he wants. The Organization seems to be making vague references to him a lot.

DiZ:
Another enigma to Riku. Although he was helping Riku by making him confront his dark side, Riku is still distrustful of him. Even King Mickey has a feeling that the he has meet him before. DiZ seems to show almost no emotion, and covers his face and body in red bandages to help hide his identity.

Jimeny Cricket:
Jimeny now shows up a lot more often and lending Sora advice time to time. He stills plays the role as chronicler, as Minnie asked of him last journey, and takes down every moment in the journal. He, like Donald and Goofy, seem to be drawn to Castle Oblivion because he feels The King is there. Jimeny is in shock that all of his notes from the last journey seems to have vanished. Though, he is still determined to continue with his journal.

Leon:
Leon, once known as Squall Leonheart, is a skilled warrior who wields a unique weapon called a gun blade. He is a close friend of Sora’s and will once again be helping him out in his next journey. Their original meeting was a bit hostile and Leon managed to get the best of Sora. But he did this with good intentions, he needed to explain to Sora about the key blade and the heartless. He was also being looked for by loveable goofs Donald and Goofy, for King Mickey told them to get his help. Leon proved to be a useful ally and helped Sora, Donald and Goofy along the way. He returns, still in Traverse Town and still with his quiet smugness but he can’t recall entirely who Sora is.

Yuffie:
Yuffie is a long time friend of Leon and the gang since Hollow Bastion. Yuffie is quite cheerful, but a tad outspoken at times. In the first game she would usually provide support to Leon and Sora verbally and physically, and would often just be on the sidelines. She returns, along with Leon, in Traverse Town. Even though she can’t remember Sora, she remembers their names and that’s good enough for her.

Aerith:
Aerith is a calm girl who used to live in Hollow Bastion with Leon. She provided the truth of the key blade to Donald and Goofy while they were looking for Sora, not knowing that Sora was in the next room hearing the same facts from Leon. She is also usually on the sidelines, but isn’t afraid to go head first into danger if she needs to. In Aerith’s next encounter with Sora, she seems to have a bit of a memory problem, but manages to somewhat recall Sora. Aerith's sense of truth lets her know that she is nothing but a passerby of Sora on his journey through Oblivion.

Cid:
Another friend of Leon and the gang who helps Sora tremendously on his journey. The two first meet when Sora finds himself lost in Traverse Town. He just happens to stumble upon “Gramp’s” shop and Cid lends him a helping hand. Then when Sora needed help with a mysterious gummi, Cid used his expertise and knowledge to boost up Sora’s ship, which he did numerous times. When Sora encounters Cid in Oblivion, he can’t recall Sora. Maybe old age is finally getting to him?

Cloud:
Cloud and Sora’s first meeting was a hostile one. Hades hired Cloud to enter the tournament to kill Hercules, but when Sora entered the plans switched over to killing him. When the two entered the ring Cloud couldn’t find the heart to kill Sora. Hades then released his favorite pet, Cerberus, and Sora had to take him down. Before the two parted, Cloud told him he needed to find someone and wouldn’t stop until he did. Even though last time the two ended on good terms, this time they bump heads in the coliseum in a race.

Tidus:
Tidus is a kid from Destiny Islands who usually goes with Sora and the others to play. He has a competitive spirit and considers himself a champ at everything he tries. However he does have respect for Sora and Riku, especially when they manage to beat him and the others, 3 against 1. He is still on Destiny Islands with the others and teases Sora for liking a certain someone on the islands.

Selphie:
Selphie is a rather perky girl from Sora’s islands. Even though Wakka and Tidus sometimes leave Selphie out because she is a girl, she has enough fight in her to watch out for herself. She is a romantic who is enchanted by the legend of the Papou Fruit, and wishes one day that she could share it with someone. She still remains on the islands, carefree and hopeful of the future.

Wakka:
Wakka is one of the oldest kids who lives on the islands, and watches out for Selphie, Tidus and the others. Even though he is the oldest, that doesn’t stop him for being adventurous and exploring the islands secret spots. He also seems to be skilled in Blitzball, always carring the ball around and using it as a powerful weapon. Wakka is still exploring and training around the islands, all the while watching over Tidus and Selphie.
